Binance covers 90% of hack losses and aims to resume withdrawals on Sunday

Binance says it has restored backing for about 90% of the $6.3 billion stolen in the recent hack and plans to reopen withdrawals after security checks.
The world’s largest crypto exchange announced that it has restored backing for roughly 90% of the token assets taken in the record $6.3 billion hack of its hot wallets. While the funds have not been recovered from the attacker, Binance has used its Secure Asset Fund for Users (SAFU), a slice of its futures insurance pool and corporate treasury to replace the missing assets.
How the coverage is being funded
- SAFU and part of the futures insurance fund are being tapped
- Corporate treasury supplies additional liquidity
- The exchange continues to buy the remaining tokens on‑ and off‑exchange to reach full coverage
Tokens fully backed and remaining gaps
- BTC, ETH, USDT, BNB, SOL, USDC, XRP, USD1, RLUSD and ZEC are now 100% covered
- The outstanding 10% consists of lower‑liquidity tokens outside the top ten
- Binance expects sourcing these assets will take longer
What traders are watching next
- Confirmation that withdrawals resume on Sunday after security checks
- Further updates on the investigation into the breach, including the role of a compromised DevOps environment
- Potential market impact as Binance continues to purchase remaining tokens through OTC channels
