Gold falls below $3,886, hits new YTD low

Gold slid to $3,880 on Friday, breaking the $3,900 barrier for the first time since October 2025 as Fed hawks and higher oil prices weigh on risk appetite.
Gold (XAU/USD) dropped to a fresh year‑to‑date low of $3,880 on Friday, slipping under the $3,900 level for the first time since October 2025. The decline came as the U.S. dollar and Treasury yields edged higher, while hawkish comments from Federal Reserve officials and rising oil prices dented market sentiment.
Fed officials push a tighter stance
- Dallas Fed President Lorie Logan called for two additional rate hikes
- St. Louis Fed President Alberto Musalem urged another hike soon, saying policy remains too loose
- Richmond Fed President Thomas Barkin favoured a gradual approach but noted spreading inflation pressures
Technical picture and next targets
- If XAU/USD stays below the October 28, 2025 low of $3,886, the next support is near $3,800
- A break of $3,800 could open the way to the $3,500 swing‑high turned support
- A bullish reversal would need a close above $3,900 and $4,000 to test $4,100 and the 100‑day SMA at $4,213
