The dollar rises on a stronger‑than‑expected JOLTs report, lifting EUR/USD, GBP/USD, USD/CAD and USD/JPY as markets brace for the U.S. midterms.

The U.S. dollar index nudged higher after the latest JOLTs Job Openings report beat expectations, adding fresh momentum to the greenback ahead of the November midterm elections. The survey showed openings climbing to 7.523 million, above the 7.1 million forecast, while September factory orders rose 1.8% month‑over‑month, beating the 1.2% consensus. With the index hovering near the 50‑day moving average at 101.94, traders are watching for a break above that level, which could push the index toward resistance around 102.35‑102.50.

Major pairs in focus

  • EUR/USD lingered around 1.119, stuck between a support band of 1.1175‑1.1190 and a resistance zone of 1.1250‑1.1265. Oil price pull‑backs and mixed Middle‑East news offered modest support to the euro.
  • GBP/USD held near 1.341, above the 1.3385‑1.3400 support zone and eyeing a test of 1.3430. A moderate RSI suggests room for upside if risk sentiment improves.
  • USD/CAD traded around 1.400, trying to break the 1.3985‑1.4000 resistance. A slip below 1.3950 would open the path to 1.3900‑1.3915 support.
  • USD/JPY climbed to 158.5 as Treasury yields rose, with the pair looking to stay above the 157.405 support and target the 157.940‑158.10 resistance range.

What traders are watching next

  • Whether the dollar index can sustain a close above its 50‑day MA, which would set up a move toward 102.35‑102.50 resistance.
  • EUR/USD breaking above 1.1190 for a test of 1.1250‑1.1265, or falling back to 1.1100‑1.1115 if support fails.
  • GBP/USD clearing 1.3430 to aim for 1.3485‑1.3500, versus a drop below 1.3385 that could revive bearish pressure.
  • USD/CAD holding above 1.3985 to target 1.4070‑1.4085, or slipping under 1.3950 to revisit 1.3900‑1.3915 support.
  • USD/JPY staying above 157.405 and testing 157.940‑158.10 as 2‑year Treasury yields stay above 4.60% and 10‑year yields above 4.93%.
